The club was started in 1991...and it was Eric Hahn and Wayne "Smurf" Jennings who came up with the idea as a breakaway from the Southside Kneeriders and in fact it was Eric's wife who hand drew and wrote our first newsletter.....after the first pointscore, Smurf went onto win the Southside clubs pointscore that year beating Mark Ashby for the title before returning back to us in 92 and then giving his full attention and attendence to the club from then on....Smurf is the only member of the WAKAS who holds dual club championship titles! Peter Anderson was the the first president with me handed the treasurer role and at the time I was in the same role of Jones Beach Boardriders, which I remained a member for 10 years before finally devoting my passion to the wakas...Steen was the publicity officer, with plenty of contacts in the local media, and he like myself  was also involved with another stand club..WABA. The main mover behind the club was Eric Hahn and thats why I mention him so often, because without him there would have been no WAKAS. Opposite is a picture from Australia Day, and it turns out Eric has a permanent van in the caravan park next door to Cuddie shop...another reason why so many of his landscapes are taken down here in the Sussex region!

The first Waka club champion was Adam Williams and that is how he got the title King Waka. Of the original members from start we still have 3 Rudy Lausz, Mark Abel and Wayne Jennings who still are active competitive members. A bit of trivia-Wayne Jennings has only missed 4 club comps since 1990.
Over the years we have had Mark Slater cadet world champion, Steen Barnes senior mens world champ. Albert Munoz open world champ, twice (2011, 2015) Donna Jennings womens world champ.
